These public workshops are for residents to come speak to Council members about the junk accumulations that we have received many complaints about at the office. Council does not necessarily want to restrict anything, that is why these workshops are being held. Council has to decide how to take care of the resident concerns about outdoor storage while not trying to infringe on property rights.

These workshops are not being streamed because Council wants people to feel free to speak to their experiences without people coming down on them, regardless of what side of the issue they are on.
These sessions are open to residents to speak their minds openly and create dialogue with Council.

However, the best way to deal with these issues are to talk to your neighbors. Many people call the borough office to complain without talking to their neighbors first. Creating a new law should be the last thing done to handle issues, and community communication is better than having Code or Police called.

The community needs to come together to determine what they do and do not want to see from their government. The Borough is not an HOA, but the rights of your neighbors are just as important as individual property rights and must be balanced. Council is not regulating shutter colors or anything, but some people have concerns with accumulated items in sight of their property (vermin issues) and what it does to their home values.

Chicken pens in front yards are also a real concern from several residents that live near them.
Currently, there are no ordinances to deal with these complaints by borough officials and staff. The Council wanted to have these public workshops to gain feedback from all sides of these issues and determine what, if anything, we can agree on to make life better for everyone in the borough. I hope this helps explain why these meetings are taking place. Thanks to everyone for their participation and support with making the Borough better.
