🚨 Move Over! 🚨
This Saturday, October 18, is National Move Over Day—a reminder that every state, including Pennsylvania, has laws requiring drivers to move over or slow down for emergency and disabled vehicles.
Motorists must yield for all responders, including police, fire, and ambulance crews, as well as stopped tow trucks and maintenance vehicles. A similar regulation also applies when approaching stationary trash or recycling trucks.
If it’s not safe to merge into a lane farther from the scene, drivers are required to reduce speed by at least 20 mph below the posted limit when passing an emergency response area.
An emergency response area includes any location where:
- An emergency vehicle has flashing lights
- Road crews or responders use flares, signs, or other signals to alert travelers
