Description
There is a lot happening in Bayou Vista! Here’s an update on several projects, improvements, and upcoming community events.
🚧 Drainage Survey
The drainage survey, topographic survey, and other field work have been completed. The project has now moved into the office/design phase. We expect to receive the results and recommendations in the coming months.
🌊 Bulkhead Repairs
Whalers have been replaced on the bulkhead between Bonita and Redfish. The City received three bids for this project, with the repairs coming in at approximately $15,500.
For comparison, replacing the entire bulkhead was estimated at $54,000–$64,000. This repair represents a significant savings to the City while addressing the immediate needs of the bulkhead.
💰 TexPool Interest Earnings
The City has earned approximately $69,000 in interest through TexPool. These earnings provide an additional benefit to the City while our funds are invested.
🌳 Saconas Park Gazebo
We have received four bids for the gazebo project and are hopeful that construction will be completed by mid-November. The completion of the bulkhead work was needed before moving forward with the gazebo project.
🎄 Christmas Is Coming!
The Christmas tree arrived this week, and preparations are already underway for our upcoming holiday celebrations.
🏗️ 926 Bonita — Future City Hall & Police Department
Demolition at 926 Bonita is scheduled to begin October 28.
The final design plans have been completed and are posted in the window of the building for residents to view. Once demolition is complete, the City will begin accepting bids for the renovation work.
This is another major step toward creating a new home for Bayou Vista City Hall and the Bayou Vista Police Department.
🌽 Improvements at the Big Lot
Water has been installed at the Big Lot by David Tyler with Piney Woods Plumbing, who generously provided both the parts and labor at no cost to the City.
We are also excited about the new corn hole area. Sukal has laid out the area for the corn hole boards provided through the Poker Run.
🚦 New Neptune Street Signs
New street signs for Neptune have been ordered. As part of this improvement, the City will also be removing unnecessary extra posts and signs to create a cleaner and more consistent appearance.
🚓 New Police Unit
A new police unit has been ordered through the City's grant funding and should be arriving soon. This will be another important addition to our Police Department.
