Description
October is Cybersecurity Awareness Month, and this year's theme is β€œDon't Make It Easy for Them.” Cybercriminals look for ways to steal personal information, get into accounts, and take your money. The good news is that a few simple habits can make their job much harder.

Here are four easy ways to protect yourself online:

1. Use Strong Passwords
Make your passwords at least 16 characters long and use a different one for every account. A password manager can create and securely store strong passwords for you, making them easier to manage.

2. Turn On Multifactor Authentication (MFA)
Multifactor authentication (MFA) is a security check that uses more than one type of proof to make sure you are who you say you are. Instead of just typing a password, you take two or more steps before the computer or application on your phone lets you in. Think of MFA like having two locks on the same door.

3. Keep Your Software Updated
Software updates help fix security problems that cybercriminals can use to get into your devices. Turn on automatic updates when possible and restart your device when needed.

4. Watch Out for Scams
Scammers may send emails, texts, or messages that look like they came from someone you trust. They often try to get you to act quickly by clicking a link, sharing information, or sending money. Slow down and check that the message is real before responding.

Staying safe online does not have to be complicated. A few small steps can go a long way toward protecting your information, accounts, and money. Learn more about the four basic ways to stay safe online here.

Smart Tips for Using AI Safely:
Artificial intelligence, or AI, is becoming part of everyday life. From chatbots and voice assistants to writing tools and photo generators, AI can make everyday tasks easier. Like any technology, it is important to know how to use it safely.

Here are a few simple tips to keep in mind:

Be Careful What You Share:
Think twice before entering personal information, financial details, passwords, or private work documents into an AI tool. Check the tool's privacy settings and follow your workplace's rules for sharing information.

Think About Privacy:
AI tools handle information differently. Take a moment to understand how the tool is used and stores what you share.

Watch Out for Scams:
Scammers can use AI to create realistic emails, pictures, videos, and even voices. If you receive an unexpected message asking for money or personal information, take time to verify that it is real.

Double Check the Information:
AI can be helpful, but it can also make mistakes. Check important information with a trusted source before relying on it.

Report Scams:
If you receive a suspicious message or think someone is trying to scam you, report it to the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) here. Your report helps the FTC identify scams, investigate scammers, and warn others about potential threats.

AI can be a useful tool when used carefully. A little caution can help you enjoy the benefits while protecting your personal information.

Stay Safe This Fall:
Fall in Pennsylvania brings cooler temperatures, colorful leaves, and plenty of activities around the house. It is also a great time to check a few things off your home safety list. October is Fire Prevention Month, making it the perfect time to review fire safety and get ready for the colder months ahead.

Check Your Smoke Alarms:
Test your smoke alarms every month and replace batteries when needed. Smoke alarms should generally be replaced every 10 years. Take a few minutes to practice your family fire escape plan, making sure everyone knows two ways out of each room and where to meet outside.

Use Heating Equipment Safely:
As temperatures drop, fireplaces, wood stoves, and space heaters get more use. Keep anything that can burn at least three feet away from heating equipment. Have your chimney inspected and cleaned as needed before using your fireplace or wood stove.

Be Careful With Fall Yard Work:
Raking leaves, cleaning gutters, and getting your yard ready for winter are common fall chores. Follow local rules for leaf disposal and outdoor burning. If burning is permitted, keep water nearby and always watch the fire. When using ladders, place them on firm, level ground and follow ladder safety instructions.

Stay Visible Outdoors:
With the days getting shorter, it is important to be seen when walking or spending time outside. Wear bright or reflective clothing and carry a flashlight when visibility is low.

A little preparation can help you enjoy everything fall has to offer while keeping your home and family safe. Take a few minutes this month to check your safety habits and get ready for the colder weather ahead.
