Description
🚨 FRAUDULENT WARRANT CALLS 🚨

Lawrence Park Police Department is warning residents about telephone scams involving individuals impersonating police officers, sheriff’s deputies, court officials, or other law enforcement personnel.

Scammers may call and claim that a warrant has been issued for your arrest, that you failed to appear for jury duty or court, or that you must make an immediate payment to avoid being arrested.

These callers may sound convincing. They may use the names of real officers, provide fake badge or case numbers, or manipulate caller ID so that the call appears to come from a legitimate law enforcement agency. Similar tactics have been identified in public warnings from the PA State Police, FBI, and the Federal Trade Commission.

PLEASE REMEMBER:
NO POLICE DEPARTMENT OR LEGITIMATE LAW ENFORCEMENT AGENCY WILL CALL YOU AND DEMAND MONEY TO CLEAR A WARRANT OR AVOID ARREST.

Law enforcement will NOT call and demand payment using:
💳 Credit or debit cards
🎁 Gift cards
₿ Bitcoin or other cryptocurrency
💵 Cash
📱 Venmo, Cash App, Zelle, or other payment apps
💸 Wire transfers or money transfers
🏧 Cryptocurrency or Bitcoin ATMs

Government and law enforcement warnings consistently identify demands for immediate payment tℎrougℎ tℎese metℎods as a sign of an impersonation scam.

If You Receive One of These Calls:
1. Do not send money.

2. Do not provide personal, banking, credit-card, or Social Security information.

3. Do not trust the number displayed on Caller ID. Scammers can make a call appear to originate from a legitimate law-enforcement telephone number.

4. Hang up.

5. If you are concerned that a warrant or other legitimate matter may exist, contact the police department or appropriate agency directly using a telephone number you independently verify, not a number supplied by the caller. This is also the verification procedure recommended in federal law-enforcement and consumer-protection warnings.

6. If someone calls you demanding payment to prevent your arrest, STOP, HANG UP, AND VERIFY.

Please share this warning with family members, friends, neighbors, and especially anyone who may be particularly vulnerable to telephone scams.
