Spring Garden Township, 09/16/2026 – Spring Garden Township has been made aware of recent incidents in which individuals have received fraudulent emails impersonating a representative from a municipality requesting payment for fees, permits, or municipal services. These messages may appear to come from official municipal departments but are not legitimate. While Spring Garden has not received any reports of this activity occurring within our township, we would like make everyone aware of this fraudulent practice.
We urge all residents, property owners, and business owners to exercise caution when receiving any unexpected communication requesting payment or sensitive information.
How to verify if a communication is legitimate:
• Check the sender’s email address carefully. Official municipal emails will come from recognized municipal domains (@sgtwp.org).
• Look for spelling or grammatical errors, unusual wording, or urgent demands for payment—common signs of fraud.
• Confirm any fee or payment request by contacting the municipality directly using the phone number (717-848-2858) or email (general@sgtwp.org) listed on our official website (springgardentwp.org).
• Do not click on links or open attachments in suspicious emails.
• Be cautious of communications that threaten penalties or demand immediate action.
How to protect yourself from fraud:
• Never provide personal information over email unless you have verified the request through official channels.
• Never provide banking details, or payment over email.
• Install and routinely update antivirus and spam filtering software.
• Report suspicious emails to the municipality and delete them immediately. Please do not forward suspicious emails to Spring Garden or any other entity.
• Regularly monitor your financial accounts for unusual activity.
