Description
As we celebrate 100 days in office, I want to take a moment to share just some of the things happening in **Bayou Vista**. It has been a busy and exciting time, and none of this happens without our residents, volunteers, city employees, council members, and community partners.
🇺🇸 **Celebrating Our Community**
* Hosted Bayou Vista’s **first-ever 4th of July Celebration**, honoring America’s 250th Birthday! The cardboard boat race was a huge success. Thank you, Alderman Pizzo!
* Held our **first-ever Hurricane Preparedness Seminar**, thanks to Mayor Pro Tem and her awesome Emergency Management team.
* Bayou Vista attended its first **Texas Municipal League event**, making statewide contacts and bringing resources and connections back to our city. We are putting Bayou Vista back on the map!
🧹 **Taking Pride in Bayou Vista**
* Hosted the Canal Clean-Up with Paul & Jennifer Hershey of CP&R and an incredible group of volunteers. **3,800 pounds of trash and debris were removed!**
* Established standards for operating the **Joe Mims Summer Festival under the City’s umbrella**.
* The BBQ Cook-Off raised **$8,400 for the Bayou Vista Police Department**.
* The Golf Tournament raised **$15,500** benefiting the BVVFD, Ronald McDonald House, gazebo beautification, and other community efforts.
* Savvy Citizen now has over **1,100 subscribers!** Great job, Alderman Caplan, on growing this important communication tool and helping with our entry sign.
🏛️ **Improving City Operations**
* All contractors working in Bayou Vista are now required to carry appropriate insurance.
* The property between Bonita and Redfish has officially been renamed **Saconas Park**. The brick fundraiser is ongoing to help make the memorial project a reality.
* Both BVPD patrol vehicles now have **mounted radar** to assist with traffic enforcement.
* While the City cannot control TxDOT decisions, we fought to keep the **Barracuda exit open**.
* At residents’ request, we are hosting **three night swims**.
* We also changed pool supply companies, saving approximately **$3,000 per year** in pool chemical costs.
* Oleanders are being addressed on Neptune in partnership with the **Saltwater Garden Club**.
* Code enforcement and permitting continue to move forward. Great job, **Chris Grube!**
* Our drainage survey is ongoing and is scheduled to go before the **Galveston County Commissioners Court on Monday, August 17, 2026**, for approval.
Most importantly, these accomplishments are about more than projects and numbers. They are about **building a stronger, safer, cleaner, and more connected Bayou Vista.**
And we're not slowing down!
### Coming Up
📅 **October 6, 2026** – 2nd Annual National Night Out
