Description
An additional structural engineer inspected 411 Corbet Street this morning, providing a third engineering opinion regarding the condition of the partially collapsed building and its effect on surrounding properties.

After reviewing the available engineering information and current site conditions, the Borough’s structural engineer agreed today that the evacuation order for the neighboring Manos Gallery at 320 E. 5th Avenue may be lifted. Residents are now permitted to return.

The damaged rear wall of 411 Corbet Street still must be repaired. Until that work is completed and accepted, the alley between 411 Corbet Street and the Manos building will remain barricaded and strictly off-limits.

The engineering determinations allowing the roads to reopen and the Manos building to be reoccupied address the immediate off-site hazard and permit the Borough to reduce the existing safety perimeter. They do not constitute approval to occupy 411 Corbet Street or a determination that the building is structurally sound.

A comprehensive structural evaluation and additional corrective work at 411 Corbet Street remain necessary. The Borough will continue exercising its code-enforcement and public-safety oversight responsibilities as the property owners address the remaining conditions.

The Borough appreciates the patience and cooperation of the displaced residents, neighboring businesses and the public throughout this emergency.
