Description
We have received several questions about why Tarentum generally adjusts its electric rates once per year, while surrounding investor-owned utilities may change portions of their rates more frequently. Surrounding investor-owned utilities increased their electric rates in June 2026. Tarentum Borough Electric did not.
The Borough adopted a five-year rate plan to keep electric costs more stable and predictable. This plan allows the Borough to anticipate power supply, capacity, operating, and infrastructure costs over several years and make gradual, scheduled adjustments instead of reacting to every change in the regional energy market.
A typical Tarentum household uses approximately 790 kWh per month. However, the comparison uses 1,000 kWh of monthly usage to provide a consistent benchmark across all three regional utilities.
The attached Electric Rate Comparison uses actual June 2026 residential bills to compare Tarentum’s costs with two surrounding investor-owned utilities. It also explains what is included in your Tarentum electric rate and why our bill may look different.
