A Message from York County "History Made Here":

YORK, Pa. – Due to extreme heat and the threat of severe weather, York County has postponed the “History Made Here Cultural Fair” that had been scheduled for the morning of Saturday, July 4, and will move the county’s Independence Day Ceremony indoors to the York County History Center.

The Cultural Fair, which had been planned in partnership with Explore York at the Rail Trail Parking Lot on Pershing Avenue, has been postponed due to the heat. The event is tentatively rescheduled for Friday, Oct. 2.

The county’s Independence Day Ceremony will take place at 12:15 p.m. inside the York County History Center, on the third floor, 121 N. Pershing Ave., York. It had previously been scheduled for outside the York Colonial Courthouse.

Additionally, York County and the York Revolution have jointly canceled the “Parade of Veterans” event that had been scheduled for 4:15 p.m. in the infield of WellSpan Park.

The National Weather Service has extended an Extreme Heat Warning until 8 p.m. Saturday, July 4, noting that heat index values of up to 110 degrees are expected. Those extreme conditions create increased risk of heat-related illnesses.

“The health and safety of the public is our No. 1 priority,” said York County President Commissioner Julie Wheeler. “While we are disappointed, the extreme heat and possibility of severe weather make it too dangerous for us to responsibly move forward with these outdoor events.”

The county noted that the “Bells Across York County” and York Factory Whistle Concert will go on as scheduled. At noon on Saturday, July 4, churches, businesses, residents and others across York County are encouraged to ring bells in unison when the clock strikes noon in celebration of America’s 250th birthday. At 3:45 p.m., a Factory Whistle Concert of patriotic songs will be held from the Metso building off North Queen Street. The concert will be heard for approximately a 5-mile radius.

In addition, the York County History Center will be open from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday.
