Description
Tarentum Borough is issuing another Peak Shaving Alert for today, Wednesday, July 1, due to continued high temperatures and increased regional electric demand. There is no emergency, and there is no immediate issue with the electric grid. This alert is a voluntary request to help reduce electric use during the highest-demand hours of the day.

Tarentum electric customers are asked to reduce electric use today between 4:00 PM and 6:00 PM.
Peak shaving means lowering electric use during the short window when demand is expected to be highest. For a municipal electric system like Tarentum’s, reducing demand during these peak periods can help lower future transmission and capacity costs. Over time, that helps reduce pressure on electric rates for all Borough electric customers.

Residents and businesses can help by taking simple steps during the peak period:

• Raise your air conditioner thermostat by a degree or two, if safe and comfortable.
• Delay laundry, dishwashers, and other large electric appliances until after 6:00 PM.
• Turn off unnecessary lights.
• Close blinds, curtains, or drapes to keep homes cooler.
• Unplug chargers and small appliances that are not being used.
• Turn off televisions, computers, radios, and other electronics when not needed.
• Avoid charging electric vehicles during the peak period, if possible.

Tarentum Electric is actively monitoring the local system during this period of hot weather. Our smart meters and system analytics help us watch demand, voltage, and other conditions so we can respond appropriately if issues arise.

As a community-owned municipal electric system, small actions by residents and businesses can make a real difference. Thank you for helping Tarentum reduce peak demand, protect our local system, and help manage long-term electric costs.
