Description
Tarentum Borough is issuing a Peak Shaving Alert for today due to higher-than-normal regional electric demand and forecasted peak load conditions across the PJM electric grid. Current peak load forecasts indicate elevated demand today and over the next several days, with the highest projected periods generally occurring in the late afternoon and early evening.
Peak shaving means temporarily reducing electric use during the highest-demand hours of the day. When everyone uses less electricity during those peak periods, it helps lower the Borough’s overall demand on the electric system.
Residents and businesses can help by taking simple steps, especially between 3:00 PM and 7:00 PM:
• Raise the thermostat a few degrees, if safe and comfortable.
• Delay running dishwashers, washers, dryers, and other large appliances.
• Turn off unnecessary lights and electronics.
• Avoid charging electric vehicles during peak hours
• Close blinds or curtains to help keep homes cooler.
Reducing peak demand helps the community by lowering stress on the electric grid, improving system reliability, and helping control future power costs for the Borough and its electric customers.
Thank you for helping Tarentum manage electric demand during this extended period of hot weather.
