Description
Hello Bayou Vista Friends & Neighbors
This is my first Mayor's Report since the election, and I want to begin by once again expressing my sincere gratitude. Thank you!
We challenged our residents to get out and vote—and you certainly did! For the first time in Bayou Vista's history, we reached a 30% voter turnout, setting a new election record. It is truly an honor to serve as your Mayor, and I do not take your support for granted. Thank you again for your confidence and trust.
From the city's perspective, it has been a busy six weeks. These are exciting times in Bayou Vista, and many positive things are happening.
At our June City Council meeting, the Council appointed Mrs. Vicki Lumb as our new Mayor Pro Tem. Mrs. Lumb also serves as Alderman Position 1 and leads Bayou Vista's Emergency Preparedness Committee. She will be hosting a Community Hurricane Preparedness Seminar on August 1 at the MUD 12 Building—an event our residents won't want to miss. More details will be announced soon.
Another important milestone has been the hiring of our new Building Inspector and Code Enforcement Officer, Mr. Chris Grube. Chris brings a wealth of construction experience and extensive knowledge of coastal construction and bulkheads. If you see Chris around town, please introduce yourself and say hello. Chris and his wife, Deb, are Bayou Vista residents who care deeply about our community.
I also want to extend my sincere appreciation to Mr. Russell Beuler for his years of dedicated service to Bayou Vista. He has done an outstanding job, and we wish him all the best in his well-earned retirement.
Current Projects and Accomplishments
* The Joe Mims Memorial Weekend Summer Festival was a tremendous success. Congratulations to Philip Sukal, our new BBQ Cook-Off Chairman. Landa Cook and her volunteers once again organized an outstanding golf tournament, while Bryan Euwer and his team hosted another excellent fishing tournament. City Council will vote this month on a new charter for the festival, and we're excited about its future.
* Thank you for your patience regarding the swimming pool entry gate. We've been working to bring the facility into compliance by retrofitting a new mechanical latch onto an older fence system. We also changed pool chemical suppliers, which will save the city approximately $3,000 annually.
* We recently launched the first phase of fundraising for the Ed Saconas Memorial Gazebo, which will be built on the property between Bonita and Redfish. City Council will also vote to officially name this property Saconas Family Park in recognition of the family's many contributions to Bayou Vista. More fundraising information will be available soon.
Support this project by purchasing one of our commemorative **America 250 Celebration T-shirts**. $5 from every shirt sold will go directly toward construction of the gazebo.

* We partnered with the Saltwater Garden Club to plant new oleanders along Neptune, filling in areas that needed beautification.
* The City has begun a comprehensive IT assessment to improve efficiency and better utilize our computer systems.
* Code Enforcement continues working diligently to help beautify Bayou Vista.
* Our annual Canal Cleanup Day will be held on Friday, July 10. Volunteers are encouraged to contact City Hall to register. Lunch will be provided, and the first 20 volunteers to sign up will receive a free T-shirt.
* We are working with the American Red Cross to offer CPR certification classes for our residents.
* Thanks to Coastal Piling & Restoration (CPR), Alderman Philip Sukal and Sandy Sukal, and the Bayou Vista Fishing Club, our Police Department has received three new bullet-resistant vests.
* Our first vehicle-mounted radar unit has been installed in a Bayou Vista Police Department patrol vehicle to improve traffic enforcement. A second unit has already been ordered. Both were funded through proceeds from the Summer Festival.
* The Bayou Vista Police Department has launched its first-ever Facebook page, providing greater transparency and improved communication with our residents.
* Join us for our 100 Days in Office Community Celebration on Saturday, August 15, at 5:00 PM under the palapa next to the basketball court on Warsaw Street. Pulled pork sandwiches and chips will be provided. This is a great opportunity to meet your Mayor, City Council members, and your neighbors.
* STARS ON THE WATER, Bayou Vista's **America 250 Independence Day Celebration**, will take place Saturday, July 4, from Noon to 4:00 PM at City Park. The celebration will feature a water slide, hot dogs, popcorn, snow cones, and a cardboard boat race at the swimming pool.
* The City of Bayou Vista is partnering with Louis Bait Camp to present the STARS ON THE WATER Fireworks Show over Highland Bayou. Fireworks will begin approximately 30 minutes after sunset. Let's fill Highland Bayou with boats as we celebrate together—but please watch out for your neighbors and always practice safe boating.
As you can see, it is an exciting time to be in Bayou Vista. Your City Council and I remain committed to making Bayou Vista the premier waterfront community on the Texas Gulf Coast.
Thank you once again for your continued support, encouragement, and confidence.
God bless Bayou Vista!
Best regards,**
Mayor Danny Rambin
