Description
The Borough of Tarentum Water Department has installed automatic water main flushers at several locations throughout the water distribution system. These devices are designed to improve water quality by reducing stagnant water, increasing circulation within the water system, and assisting the Borough in lowering total trihalomethane (TTHM) levels.
Beginning tonight, the automatic flushers will operate on the following schedule:
• Davidson Street: 2:00 AM – 4:00 AM
• Cedar Street, East 11th Avenue, Highland Avenue, Summit Street, Constitution Street, and West 11th Avenue: 12:00 AM – 2:00 AM
Some automatic flushers are self-contained units that capture and discharge water internally or directly into a pit, so residents may not notice any visible water flow. Other units are portable flushers that discharge water onto the ground, and residents may observe water flowing along the street or in the gutter during scheduled flushing periods. If you see water flowing during the times listed above, please do not be alarmed. This is part of the Borough's planned water quality improvement program and is not indicative of a water main break.
Please note that flushing times may be adjusted throughout the week as needed based on system conditions and operational requirements. We appreciate your patience and understanding as we continue investing in the reliability and quality of Tarentum's water system.
