Description
Plymouth Township will have two levies on the upcoming ballot on Tuesday, May 5th.
They are a 3 mil levy supporting Roads and Bridges, and a 1 mil levy supporting Fire and EMS. Both levies are renewals and are set to expire at the end of 2026.
Regarding the 3 mil Road and Bridge levy: "The purpose of the proposed tax is for the general construction, reconstruction, resurfacing and repair of township streets, roads and bridges; the acquisition, construction, improvement or maintenance of road department buildings, equipment and supplies; or for general infrastructure projects; and is for 5 (five) years."
In addition to the items mentioned above, 100% of Road Department salaries are provided by levy dollars.
For the 1 mil Fire and EMS levy: "The purpose of the proposed tax is for providing and maintaining fire apparatus, mechanical resuscitators, underwater rescue and recovery equipment, or other fire equipment and appliances, buildings and sites therefore, or sources of water supply and materials therefore, for the establishment and maintenance of lines of fire-alarm communications, for the payment of firefighting companies or permanent, part-time, or volunteer firefighting, emergency medical service, administrative, or communications personnel to operate the same, including the payment of any employer contributions required for such personnel under section 145.48 or 742.34 of the Revised Code, for the purchase of ambulance equipment, for the provision of ambulance, paramedic, or other emergency medical services operated by a fire department or firefighting company, or for the payment of other related costs; and is for 5 (five) years."
Because both levies are renewals, passage will not have an impact on your taxes. This is also true even if your home sees an increase in value at the next countywide re-evaluation.
Levies can be confusing, and recent changes to the laws have created a lot of uncertainty for voters. We want residents to have all the necessary information to make an informed decision.
