Description
The Town of Porter is excited to announce the construction start of our Mnoke Prairie portion of the Marquette Greenway Trail, a 60-mile regional trail that runs from Chicago, IL to New Buffalo, MI through northern Indiana. Our trail section is just over one mile long through Indiana Dunes National Park property, connecting a trail section from Burns Harbor to an existing trail on Howe Road in Porter. Milestone Contractors LP is building the Porter section.
Clearing and site preparation started at the beginning of April. Construction equipment access is from West Beam Street and Howe Road. The project is due to be substantially completed in early August 2026. A groundbreaking ceremony will likely be scheduled in early June. The project is funded by a State of Indiana Next Level Trails grant with matching funds from the Porter Redevelopment Commission.
