Description
Gulf Coast Water Authority - Annual Chlorine Maintenance April 6th to 20th..

The GCWA Thomas Mackey water plant which is entity that supplies water to MUD 12 and surrounding communities, will be doing their annual summer chlorine “burn out” for the next two weeks, starting Monday April 6th at 9am.

A “chlorine burnout” is a routine, temporary water system maintenance procedure where utilities switch from chloramines to free chlorine to kill bacteria, sanitize pipes, and remove biofilm. Normally done in spring, this process may cause a slight chlorine smell or taste, but the water remains safe to drink.

Gulf Coast Water Authority's Thomas S Mackey Water Treatment Plant will temporarily change the water treatment process from chloramine (free chlorine and ammonia) to chlorine only beginning April 6, 2026 and ending April 20, 2026.
