Description
Spring Garden Township is providing advance notice that a Snow Emergency declaration will be issued due to a forecast of heavy snowfall expected to impact our area this weekend. This early notice is intended to remind residents to prepare in advance and to plan accordingly.
Important Information for Residents during a declaration of snow emergency:
1. Parking Restrictions:
Removing vehicles from the streets is critical. Snowplows cannot safely or effectively clear roadways when cars are parked on the street. Vehicles left on Township streets in the Snow Emergency Areas during the Snow Emergency will be subject to ticketing or towing to ensure roadways remain clear for plowing and emergency access. We appreciate parking your vehicles in your driveways and getting them off the public streets to assure plow trucks can get through to clear your roads.
2. Travel Advisory:
Due to the anticipated heavy snowfall and deteriorating road conditions, non-essential travel is strongly discouraged. Snow removal equipment and emergency vehicles require adequate space to operate safely.
3. Clearing Sidewalks:
Residents and businesses must clear sidewalks of snow and ice within 12 hours after snowfall ends, in accordance with Township ordinances. It is illegal to deposit snow from sidewalks or private property onto Township streets or to throw or blow snow into the roadway. Violators are subject to fines. To assist emergency responders, particularly firefighters, please maintain a three (3) foot clearance around all fire hydrants on your property.
4. Emergency Assistance:
In the event of an emergency, always dial 911.
5. Shoveling Tips:
Shovel early and often during heavy snowfall to prevent accumulation. Avoid shoveling the last four (4) feet of your driveway until plows have passed to reduce rework.
6. Please check on your elderly neighbors, especially with the forecasted low temperatures.
