Waste Contract Bidding Clarification
The new residential base rate will be $97.29 per quarter for a period of three years starting January 1, 2026. The first bill will come in December. Residents can expect additional information in the mail directly from Waste Management this month.
We recognize that any price increase is difficult. This contract, however, secures the lowest price that was available, expands resident services, and provides three years of rate stability for Lawrence Park residents.
The Township’s contract with Pro Waste expires at the end of 2025. We are legally required to bid waste contracts, and this year we received three bids as part of a joint bidding process we entered alongside many larger municipalities who all received the same prices:
● Three bids were received. Unfortunately, all were higher than what residents currently pay.
● Pro Waste, our current provider, submitted a bid that was more expensive than Waste Management and would have restricted residents to the use of tippable bins.
● Waste Management of Pennsylvania was the lowest bidder and does not require the use of tippable bins, you can use bags, cans etc.
● Waste Management will provide additional services at this price, including:
○ Weekly curbside trash pickup
○ Recycling services
○ Bulk item pickup (scheduled)
○ Yard waste collection (seasonal)
○ Scheduled hazardous item pickup.
Why the change?
● Staying with Pro Waste would have cost residents more than Waste Management’s bid.
● The competitive bidding process ensures fairness and transparency.
● Waste Management not only came in lowest, but also offered expanded services at no additional cost.
