Dear Community member,

On behalf of the City Council, I am pleased to announce that a department for Code Enforcement Inspection has been established.

A committee was appointed to provide procedures for the following purpose:
A. To focus on a solution for Code Enforcement for consistency by providing clear, concise procedures with implementation to be adhered to by the Code Enforcement Inspector with no bias or selective enforcement.
B. To notify the residents of Bayou Vista with open communication that there is active Code Enforcement with all complaints addressed efficiently and effectively.
C. To update all Code Enforcement forms and letters of notification for continuity.
D. To update all information – complaint forms, etc., on the City’s Website at www.bayouvista.us.

An Ordinance was approved by the City Council at the Regular Meeting held on July 29, 2025, for the Building Inspector to also perform the duties of Code Enforcement Inspector in conjunction with his duties as Building Inspector. The Ordinance included definition on which codes, i.e., property maintenance, public health, safety, etc., that will now be the responsibility of the office of the Building Inspector/Code Enforcement Inspector.
We are reaching out to the Community at this time to let you know that this combination of duties has occurred so that you are aware of which Department can assist you and to also make you aware that Code Enforcement will be an active segment of living in Bayou Vista.

The City of Bayou Vista is a beautiful place to live and when we maintain our property on a consistent basis, Bayou Vista provides an environment for all to enjoy. Especially now that Hurricane Season is here, this is the time to take inventory of your property and remove items that are not only unsightly but when swept along by a storm surge can cause extensive damage to neighboring homes and our canals.

If you know of an elderly or disabled neighbor that needs assistance with their property maintenance, please do not hesitate to call City Hall at 409-935-8348 and we will organize a crew. If you are interested in helping with this endeavor, call City Hall today and you will be added to our list of volunteers.

We have included information concerning SAVVY citizen which is a free “app” to keep you informed of items of interest to our community. Extensive updates will be provided on this “app” for storm related issues. Also, included is the flyer developed by the Bayou Vista Emergency Preparedness Committee as a quick reference guide to assist you with storm preparations and a link to the Canal Owner’s Guide.
We thank you for your cooperation and partnership with “Keeping Bayou Vista Beautiful” as this is everyone’s responsibility.

Sincerely,

Paula J. Eshelman, Mayor
and City Council of Bayou Vista
