Description
Officials from the county health department are closely monitoring air quality following the explosion at Clairton Works, and have issued a precautionary advisory for residents within a 1-mile radius.
Out of an abundance of caution, individuals in the affected area are advised to remain indoors, keep all windows and doors closed, and set HVAC systems to recirculate to avoid bringing in outside air. Residents should also refrain from using exhaust fans or any appliances that draw in outdoor air. These measures are intended to minimize exposure to potentially harmful airborne substances while the situation is being assessed. If you or anyone in your household has respiratory conditions, asthma, or is elderly or very young, extra care should be taken, as these groups are more vulnerable to poor air quality.
Local authorities will provide updates as more information becomes available.
