Description
The Borough of Tarentum is committed to protecting our waterways and community health. As part of this effort, we participate in the state and federal MS4 program.
What is MS4?
MS4 stands for “Municipal Separate Storm Sewer System.” This program is designed to help prevent pollution from stormwater runoff, which is the water from rain or melting snow that flows over streets, parking lots, and other surfaces. As it moves, stormwater can pick up trash, oils, chemicals, and other pollutants that flow untreated into our local creeks, rivers, and streams.
Why should you care?
Clean water is essential for our health, our environment, and our local economy. Polluted stormwater can harm wildlife, damage property, raise cleanup costs, and affect recreational activities. By reducing stormwater pollution, we help keep our community safe, healthy, and attractive.
How can you help?
Everyone has a part to play! Here are some simple steps you can take:
-Never dump anything down storm drains. Only rain belongs in the drain.
-Pick up pet waste and dispose of it properly.
-Reduce or eliminate fertilizer and pesticide use in your yard.
-Keep yard waste, grass clippings, and leaves out of streets and storm drains.
-Properly dispose of household chemicals, oils, and paints.
-Report any illegal dumping or suspicious activity to the Borough.
