As a reminder, Tarentum receives its electricity from an external transmission system, which also supplies other nearby communities. While Tarentum’s power remains stable, we are currently seeing brownouts and outages in surrounding areas served by neighboring electric utilities.
This week’s forecast calls for extremely high temperatures, which add stress to the regional power grid. Even though Tarentum’s electric system is performing well, we are not immune to broader grid impacts, and your help can make a difference.
Here’s how you can help reduce the risk of outages or brownouts:
-Conserve energy during peak hours (2 PM – 8 PM)
--Postpone heavy appliance use (e.g., dryers, dishwashers, ovens) until later in the evening or early morning.
-Raise your thermostat a few degrees
-Close blinds and curtains
--Blocking sunlight can help keep your home cooler naturally.
-Unplug unused electronics and chargers
--Even idle devices draw power.
-Avoid unnecessary outdoor lighting
--Turn off decorative or landscape lights during peak hours.
