Description
Tarentum Borough is announcing the immediate closure of the 4th Avenue Bridge over Bull Creek following the sudden development of a sinkhole directly adjacent to the structure.

After a site inspection, our engineering team confirmed that a storm sewer line beneath the roadway has collapsed, causing ground instability and posing a risk to the bridge and surrounding infrastructure. Due to the seriousness of the situation, and upon the recommendation of our engineer and solicitor, Tarentum Borough has declared a local emergency to ensure we can respond quickly and effectively.

Why This Is an Emergency

-The collapsed storm line is located directly next to the bridge structure.
-The sinkhole has created unsafe conditions for travel and utility support.
-Delaying repairs could result in further damage or increased safety risks.

What This Means for the Public

Declaring a local emergency allows the Borough to act as swiftly as possible while still following safe and sound engineering practices. This step enables us to:

-Engage qualified contractors without delay;
-Coordinate with state and environmental agencies immediately;
-Begin necessary work to stabilize and repair the area as soon as safely possible.

Our goal is to restore the site responsibly and efficiently while prioritizing the safety of the public, our infrastructure, and our utility systems.

We appreciate your patience and cooperation. Access to nearby businesses remains open via Center Street, and we will provide regular updates as repairs progress.
