Good Morning, Bayou Vista!
A proposition to increase sales taxes by one-fourth of one percent (0.25%) has been placed on the May 3, 2025, Special/General Election ballot along with the election of three (3) Aldermen.
Currently, the sales tax in Bayou Vista is 8.00%. From the 8.00%, the State receives 6.25% of the sales tax collected and the city receives 1.75% of the sales tax collected. The increase from 1.75% to 2.00% will generate an anticipated additional $30,000 per year to the city.
If approved, then the total sales tax collected in Bayou Vista will be 8.25%, which is the norm for most municipalities in the State.
