Good Morning, Bayou Vista!
City Council met in Regular Meeting, Tuesday, January 28, 2025, and approved Ordinance 2025-01 - calling for the May election of three (3) Alderman on May 3, 2025. Along with this General Election, a proposition to increase the City's sales tax by .25% was also approved and will be included on the General Election ballot.
The City of Bayou Vista currently charges 8% sales tax. That 8% is divided as follows:
State receives 6.25 %
Bayou Vista receives 1.75%
The additional .25% would increase the city's portion of the sales tax to 2.00%. Therefore, the total sales tax would be 8.25% which is the norm for most municipalities in the State.
This .25% would generate approximately an additional $30,000.00 of revenue for the City.
Concerning the election of Aldermen, the deadline to apply for Place on the Ballot is Friday, February 14, 2025 - 5:00 p.m.
