Description
Please take the necessary precautions in preparing for the cold weather which is expected to begin over this upcoming weekend.
Protecting Your Pipes:
• Insulate exposed pipes: Focus on pipes located in unheated areas like basements, attics, and crawlspaces.
• Locate the main water shut-off valve: Knowing where it is will allow you to turn off water supply in case of
a pipe burst.
• Disconnect and drain outdoor hoses: This prevents water from freezing and potentially damaging pipes.
• Open cabinet doors below sinks: This allows warmer air to circulate around pipes.
• Let faucets drip: A slow stream of water helps prevent pipes from freezing.
• Turn off automatic sprinkler systems: Prevent pipes from freezing within the system.
• Insulate and cover pipes: Wrap pipes with insulation or heat tape to prevent them from freezing.
If water is seen flowing from a residence, please assist with shutting the water off at the meter or you can contact MUD 12 directly at 409-935-6111. If MUD is unable to make it to the residence to shut the water off, please contact the Galveston County Sheriff's Office NONEMERGENCY number 409-766-2322 option 2 and request the Police or Fire Department to assist with shutting the water off.
Thank you.
