Description
From Mayor Freshcorn:
My fellow neighbors of Delaware Water Gap. I want to ALERT you to a couple of situations that happened this week. There were 2 different instances where Facebook Marketplace buyers came to 2 different residents’ homes looking to pick up an item that was falsely advertised on Facebook. Neither of these residents had listed anything to sell, but their address was in the description as the seller and the location to meet to finalize the purchase and pick up the item. The buyers were upset to find out that they had paid a deposit using CashApp, Venmo, Zelle, Apple Pay, etc. only to learn that the item didn’t exist and the homeowner knew nothing about the listing. The DWG Police were involved in helping the homeowner and buyer sort through the situation, but the Chief and I want to make our Residents aware of the incident, since it has now happened twice in one week. If someone comes to your home for the purpose of buying something under a false listing and you are not comfortable with approaching or addressing the situation, or if the buyer begins to become irate, please call 911 for assistance. Our Department, or the State Police will be able to help you. And please keep a watchful eye out in your part of our neighborhood and report anything you feel may be a concern. Thank you!
