Harrisburg, PA – The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) invites the public to a virtual plan display regarding the Route 462 (East Market Street) intersection improvement project. This project is located at the intersection of East Market Street and Harrison Street in the City of York and Spring Garden Township, York County. The purpose of this project is to improve safety of the intersection.

The project consists of signal upgrades at the East Market Street and Harrison Street intersection. East Market Street will include pavement milling and resurfacing from its intersection with Hartman Street to its intersection with Elmwood Boulevard.

The project proposes to replace existing crosswalk pavement markings on the west side of the intersection and add crosswalk pavement markings at the three other legs of the intersection.

Additionally, the curb ramps at the intersection will be updated to meet ADA standards. Approximately 100 feet of sidewalk and curb will be replaced on the north side of East Market Street, between Harrison Street and North East Street. There will be pavement marking upgrades including the northbound approach on Harrison Street which will be restriped from a dedicated through and right turn lane to a single shared through/right turn lane. There will also be upgrades to the existing median island along East Market Street from Hartman Street to Elmwood Boulevard. Additionally, there will be tree trimming to improve sight distance.

The project is currently in design and construction work is expected to take place from the Fall 2024 through the Spring 2025.

Information including an interactive comment form, can be found by visiting the PennDOT District 8 website clicking on Public Meetings listed under the Resources heading, and choosing the York County box then the tile marked Market Street Signal Upgrade.
