Description
The application process for Pennsylvania's Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program is now open for the 2023-24 season. The federally funded program helps renters and homeowners pay their heating bills.
LIHEAP is distributed directly to utility companies, including Tarentum Borough or home heating fuel providers, as a grant, so households don't have to repay assistance.
The minimum cash grant is $300, and the maximum is $1,000. The amount is based on household size, income, and fuel type.
A crisis grant is also available to people in immediate danger of being without heat. The crisis grant ranges from a minimum of $25 to a maximum of $1,000. The LIHEAP application period runs until April 5, 2024.
There are two ways to apply for LIHEAP:
Online: Apply for benefits using COMPASS, the online tool for Pennsylvanians to apply for health and
human service programs and manage benefit information.
On paper: You can download a paper application, print it, fill it out, and return it to your local county
assistance office.
