Work will allow ramp from Market Street to SB I-83 to open to traffic
Harrisburg, PA – The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced today that a contractor is scheduled to perform repairs next week on the southbound Interstate 83 bridge spanning Market Street (Route 462) in York County. The ramp from Market Steet to southbound I-83 will open to traffic when this work is complete.
Weather permitting, repairs will be performed Wednesday, October 11, and Thursday, October 12.
The contractor is scheduled to work from 10:00 AM to 3:00 PM Wednesday. A right lane restriction will be in place on eastbound Market Street during work hours.
The amount of work that remains after that will determine when the contractor will complete repairs on Thursday. Work may be performed during the same hours Thursday, or if more time is needed, from 7:00 PM Thursday to 6:00 AM Friday. An updated release will be issued when Thursday’s work scheduled is known.
The ramp from Market Street to southbound I-83 will open to traffic when the repairs are completed.
In the meantime, a detour for the Market Street ramp to southbound I-83 remains in place using Belmont Street to southbound I-83.
A steel beam on the bridge was damaged several years ago by a vehicle strike. A recent bridge inspection revealed further deterioration to the beam. To ensure the safety of the traveling public, the ramp from Market Street to southbound I-83 was closed.
JD Eckman, Inc., of Atglen, PA, is the contractor on this repair project.
