Hello New and Returning Oyster Gardeners!

Saturday, April 25th will be the first Garden Creation Event at the Galveston Bay Foundation office! If you’re planning to participate in oyster gardening this season, please make sure you’ve registered for the event you’d like to attend.

Already signed up? Awesome, thanks so much, and we’ll see you there! Feel free to ignore this message! 😊

Please mark your calendar for the upcoming Garden Creation Events to kick off the 2026 oyster gardening season with the Galveston Bay Foundation Oyster Gardening Program!

There are five events to choose from (see table below), and all are open to any bayfront community.

At these events, you will:
Learn about the Oyster Gardening Program
Build your own oyster gardens
Take them home to grow baby oysters until the Garden Collection Events in the fall

All events are come-and-go, and there is no fee to participate. It typically takes about 30 minutes to an hour to receive the information and build your gardens. Staff and volunteers will be present to help you and answer any questions.

Please register for the event that best fits your schedule using the link below for the date you plan to attend. Once registered, you will receive additional details (address, what to wear/bring, etc.).

For the Moody Gardens event will be held at the outdoor pavilion behind the pyramids.

Before you register, keep in mind:
Please provide the address where your gardens will be located when entering your mailing address. This is not used for mailing purposes; it allows me to track where gardens are placed within the bay.

Registering in advance via the portal not only saves you time, but it also helps us prepare supplies and reduces staff time manually processing over a hundred volunteers so they can do more conservation work!

How to register:
Adults (18+) must register individually. If someone else is picking up gardens for you, you MUST still register in the volunteer portal.

Go to volunteer.galvbay.org, enter your email we have on file and password, and use the "Forgot Password" option if you need to reset your password. If you are new to oyster gardening or have never had an account, you will need to create an account.

Once you have logged in, come back to this calendar event and click on the link in the table below for the event you wish to attend. This will reroute you to the event opportunity on the volunteer portal. Click “Respond.” Complete any required qualifications (e.g., annual waiver and data integrity form).
Then click "Submit Opportunity Response" at the bottom of the page.

If you are coming with a spouse or other adult guests, you can use the “Respond as Team” option to enter their information. Alternatively, your guest can sign waivers on the day of the event. You will receive a confirmation email once you have completed registration.

Minors (18 or younger) Do not need to sign up individually.
A paper waiver must be signed by a parent or legal guardian. Only a parent or legal guardian may waive third-party liability. All attendees under 18 must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian.

If you experience any issues registering or need assistance, please contact our Volunteer Coordinator, Starla (slawhon-dyer@galvbay.org), before the event so she can help you with registration.

If you are unable to attend any of the scheduled events, please let me know and we can coordinate an alternative time to meet.

If a neighbor is attending and would like to pick up gardens for you, they are welcome to do so. They will need to provide your email address, phone number, and the address where your gardens will be located. If you didn’t register via the links below, I will email you the waiver and data integrity form, which must be signed and returned before participation.

Please note the Garden Collection Events (when we meet in the fall to collect the gardens) will most likely take place in Bayou Vista, Beach City, Galveston, San Leon, and Tiki Island sometime in October and November.
