NOTICE
Yankeetown Parks & rec will hold a brief prayer and Laying of the Wreath ceremony on Friday, May 22, 2026, at 3:00 PM at the flag in front of Townhall to honor and remember our fallen soldiers in observance of Memorial Day.
The public is welcome to attend as we pause in gratitude for those who gave their lives in service to our country.
NOTE OF INTEREST
Official Rule
The flag is flown at half-staff from sunrise until noon only
At 12:00 PM (noon), it is raised to full-staff for the remainder of the day
Meaning Behind It
Half-staff (morning): honors those who died in military service
Full-staff (afternoon): symbolizes the nation continuing on, carried by the living
Proper Procedure
Raise the flag briskly to the top of the pole first
Then lower it slowly to half-staff position
At noon, raise it back to full-staff
This is one of the few days where the flag is only at half-staff for part of the day, not the entire day.
