Description
STORM UPDATE from Cedar Key Fire Rescue
- Isaias strengthened overnight from 65 to 80 mph and is now a hurricane. This uses the 7 a.m. Central / 8 a.m. Eastern Advisory 7A issued October 8.
- Northern Gulf hurricane and storm surge watches became warnings overnight. The Big Bend coast from Steinhatchee River to Yankeetown remains under a Storm Surge Watch.
- Landfall is still expected late Friday or early Saturday. The 4 a.m. forecast changed little, with a 110 mph peak early Friday and some weakening before landfall. It is still expected to be a dangerous hurricane.
WHAT THIS MEANS FOR CEDAR KEY
Storm Surge Watch for Coastal Levy. The coastal segment from Steinhatchee River to Yankeetown remains at 2-4 feet. This does not mean all inland areas have the same exposure.
The City of Cedar Key is monitoring. At this point, everything is a "Watch." We are receiving the same updates that the public is receiving. We will be on a webinar at 10:00 a.m. in the morning with the NWS. We will advise of any updates at that time.
At this time, sandbags are not available for use. Cedar Key and Levy County are not under a Declaration of Emergency at this time. Sandbags are available at most hardware stores for purchase.
We always tell everyone, this is weather and things can change at a moment's notice. Monitor updates often. Please prepare in a way that makes you feel comfortable.
