From Luzerne County Conservation District program coordinator:
We just started our last week of surveillance, and mosquito numbers are dropping throughout the county, but we are continuing to get positive traps. Please continue to utilize protection until we get the first hard frost of the year. We are continuing to monitor through larval and adult surveillance to help diminish the potential spread of West Nile Virus. Please remove standing water from property. Artificial habitat such as bird baths, tires, unsealed rain barrels, children's toys, wheelbarrows, or anything else that holds stagnant water for more than 4 days can begin to breed mosquitoes.
I am encouraging residents to take the following precautions:
Stay indoors during peak mosquito hours (dusk to dawn)
Wear long sleeves, pants, and closed toe shoes, if possible
Wear EPA registered repellents
