Curry County Road Conditions Update
The Curry County Road Department is advising motorists that road conditions throughout the County have significantly worsened following continued rainfall overnight.
Due to flooding last night, CR 14 between SR 209 and CRK was closed. Motorists are urged to avoid this area and use alternate routes.
Many dirt roads are extremely muddy and in poor condition and should be avoided if possible. Motorists traveling on caliche roads are urged to use extreme caution, as the continued rain has created slick and unstable conditions that can make travel difficult and potentially unsafe.
Chipseal roads should NOT be driven on when water is covering the roadway. Water can hide damaged areas, washouts, or other hazards beneath the surface. If a chipseal road is covered with water, motorists should turn around and find an alternate route whenever possible.
Road conditions can change rapidly, and additional rainfall may result in more flooding, hazardous travel conditions, and road closures.
Our road crews are out continuing to evaluate County roads. As the rains continue to fall, there may be additional road closures today. The public is encouraged to stay alert and monitor County updates before traveling.
The Curry County Road Department urges all motorists to:
• Avoid dirt roads whenever possible until conditions improve.
• Use extreme caution on caliche roads.
• Do not drive on chipseal roads when water is covering the roadway.
• Reduce speed and allow additional stopping distance.
• Never attempt to drive through water when the depth or condition of the roadway cannot be determined.
• Be alert for mud, standing water, washouts, and other hazards.
