Swoyersville Police investigate fatal dog attack

Description
On 9/15/26, Swoyersville Police responded to a reported dog attack in the area of Church and Dana Streets in Swoyersville Borough.
Two parties were walking their dogs on Church Street when one dog, a coonhound mix, encountered the victim’s dog, a Yorkie, and bit it several times. The owner of the coonhound mix separated her dog from the Yorkie; however, the Yorkie had already sustained multiple bites and injuries.
Following the attack, the Yorkie’s owner transported the dog to Plains Animal Hospital, where it was determined that the dog had succumbed to its injuries prior to receiving treatment.
Both parties subsequently reported the incident to police. Swoyersville Police, along with State Dog Warden Jeanine Laputka, investigated the incident.
Following the investigation, the owner of the coonhound mix agreed to have the animal humanely euthanized on 9/21/26.
