Residents may have recently read or heard reports about an earthy or musty taste and odor in the Corpus Christi water system.
The City of Taft receives its water from the Corpus Christi regional water system. Corpus Christi Water has reported that the temporary taste and odor were caused by increased levels of naturally occurring organic material from the western reservoirs. These conditions affect only the taste and odor of the water and do not present a health risk. The water continues to meet federal and state drinking-water standards and remains safe for drinking, cooking, and everyday use.
Corpus Christi Water has reported that the compounds associated with the taste and odor are no longer being detected in the source water entering the O.N. Stevens Water Treatment Plant. However, residents may continue to notice the taste or odor as the previously treated water moves through the regional and local distribution systems. Some areas may experience the effects longer than others because water movement varies throughout the system.
The City of Taft appreciates the public’s patience and understanding as the affected water continues to clear from the distribution system.
