IMPORTANT INFORMATION ABOUT YOUR DRINKING WATER
City of Lake Helen Well #2 Tested Positive for Fecal Indicator
Our water system detected fecal indicator E. coli in one our well(s). As our customers, you have a right to know what happened and what we are doing to correct this situation.
September 12, 2026, we learned that our assessment sample(s) which was collected from Well #2 for the month of September was determined to be E. coli positive. As required by EPA’s Ground Water Rule, one of our follow-up steps is to collect additional samples from the affected well to determine the extent of the problem.
The well which tested positive for Ecoli (Well #2) has been taken offline and will remain offline until follow-up sampling shows the well is absent of contamination.
What should I do?
You do not need to boil your water or take other corrective actions. However, if you have specific health concerns, consult your doctor. Fecal indicators are microbes whose presence indicates that the water may be contaminated with human or animal wastes. Microbes in these wastes can cause shortterm health effects, such as diarrhea, cramps, nausea, headaches, or other symptoms. They may pose a special health risk for infants, young children, some of the elderly, and people with severely compromised immune systems. The symptoms above are not caused only by organisms in drinking water. If you experience
any of these symptoms and they persist, you may want to seek medical advice. People at increased risk should seek advice from their health care providers about drinking this water.
What is being done?
The well that tested positive for Ecoli (Well #2) was taken offline and will remain offline until follow-up sampling shows the well is absent of contamination. All additional well and distribution samples collected on the same date yielded results absent of bacteria.
We will continue to keep you informed of the steps we are taking to protect your drinking water and will provide information regarding the resampling results upon receipt.
For more information, please contact US Water Services at 866-753-8292 or write to 4939 Cross Bayou Boulevard, New Port Richey, FL 34652. General guidelines on ways to lessen
the risk of infection by microbes are available from the EPA Safe Drinking Water Hotline at 1-800-426-4791.
Please share this information with all the other people who drink this water, especially those who may not have received this notice directly (for example, people in apartments, nursing homes, schools, and businesses). You can do this by posting this notice in a public place or distributing copies by hand or mail.
