PRECAUTIONARY BOIL WATER NOTICE
Retama Avenue / Water Tower Area
September 12, 2026
Due to a significant water line leak in the vicinity of Retama Avenue and the City water tower, which resulted in reduced distribution system pressure in the affected area, the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality has required the City of Taft Public Water System (PWS ID No. _TX2050007) to notify customers in the affected area to boil their water prior to consumption.
This Boil Water Notice applies to customers in the Retama Avenue and water tower area who experienced a loss of water service or low water pressure as a result of the water line leak.
To ensure destruction of all harmful bacteria and other microbes, water for drinking, cooking, and making ice should be boiled and cooled prior to use for drinking water or human consumption purposes. The water should be brought to a vigorous rolling boil and then boiled for two minutes.
In lieu of boiling, individuals may purchase bottled water or obtain water from some other suitable source for drinking water or human consumption purposes.
When it is no longer necessary to boil the water, City officials will notify customers that the water is safe for drinking water or human consumption purposes.
Once the Boil Water Notice is no longer in effect, the City will issue a notice to customers rescinding the Boil Water Notice in a manner similar to this notice.
The City of Taft Public Works Department is working to repair the water line, restore normal water pressure, and complete the required testing necessary to determine that the water is safe for normal consumption.
