Description
Severe Thunderstorm Warning issued September 1 at 8:31PM EDT until September 1 at 9:15PM EDT by NWS Mount Holly NJ
At 831 PM EDT, severe thunderstorms were located along a line
extending from Penns Grove to near New Castle to Appleton, moving
southeast at 45 mph.
THESE ARE DESTRUCTIVE STORMS FOR New Castle County and western Salem
County!
HAZARD...80 mph wind gusts and quarter size hail.
SOURCE...Emergency management.
IMPACT...Flying debris will be dangerous to those caught without
shelter. Mobile homes will be heavily damaged. Expect
considerable damage to roofs, windows, and vehicles.
Extensive tree damage and power outages are likely.
Locations impacted include...
Wilmington, Newark, Middletown, West Chester, Pennsville, Westtown,
Carneys Point, Elsmere, Kennett Square, New Castle, Penns Grove,
Salem, Oxford, Woodstown, Alloway, West Grove, Quinton, Swedesboro,
Delaware City, and Elmer.
This includes the following highways...
New Jersey Turnpike near exit 1.
Interstate 95 in Pennsylvania between mile markers 0 and 1.
Interstate 95 in Delaware between mile markers 1 and 23.
Interstate 295 in New Jersey between mile markers 0 and 10.
This is an EXTREMELY DANGEROUS SITUATION with tornado-like wind
speeds expected. Mobile homes and high profile vehicles are
especially susceptible to winds of this magnitude and may be
overturned. For your protection move to an interior room on the
lowest floor of a building. These storms have the potential to cause
serious injury and significant property damage.
Intense thunderstorm lines can produce brief tornadoes and widespread
significant wind damage. Although a tornado is not immediately
likely, it is best to move to an interior room on the lowest floor of
a building. These storms may cause serious injury and significant
property damage.
Torrential rainfall is occurring with these storms, and may lead to
flash flooding. Do not drive your vehicle through flooded roadways.
