Description
Currently, several non-local tree service contractors are in the area working. If you hire a private tree service to remove fallen or damaged trees from your property, that contractor is responsible for hauling off and properly disposing of the logs, branches, brush, and all other debris. They cannot simply drag the debris to the roadside and leave it there.
The Porter Public Works Department will not remove and haul debris created by a private tree service. This is a long-standing town code. We do not have the personnel and equipment to remove this quantity of debris nor the space to store it.
Your contract with a private tree service should include hauling and disposal of all debris.
All contractors working within the Town of Porter are required to be registered with the town. If a contractor says that they are licensed, bonded and insured, ask for copies of that information. They must be licensed with the Town of Porter.
