Description
The Town of Porter continues response and recovery efforts following the severe storms that caused widespread damage throughout our community on August 11. A Local Disaster Emergency remains in effect.

Power Restoration:
NIPSCO has restored power to portions of the Town; however, some areas remain without power. A specific restoration time for all remaining customers in Porter is not currently available.

NIPSCO crews continue working to restore service as quickly and safely as possible. Outage and restoration updates will be posted as they become available at NIPSCO.com/outages.

Cooling Shelter:
The Porter Fire Station, 550 W. Beam Street, is available as a cooling shelter for residents who remain without power. Please call the Porter Police Department at (219) 926-7611 to make arrangements.

Water Conservation Update:
At this time, residents no longer need to limit water usage due to the storm-related power outages. Town personnel are continuing to monitor and manage wastewater lift stations that remain affected by power outages.

Thank you to everyone who conserved water over the past several days. Your cooperation helped our crews manage the wastewater system during the widespread power outages.

Storm Debris & Brush Collection:
Due to the extensive tree damage throughout Town, the amount of storm debris is significantly greater than what Public Works would normally collect. Brush collection will take a considerable amount of time and we appreciate everyone's patience as we work to clear an unusually large volume of storm debris.

Town Services & Communications:
Phone and internet service have now been restored to both Porter Town Hall and the Public Works Department.

Town employees and Public Works crews remain actively engaged in storm recovery efforts throughout the community.

Please Continue to Use Caution:
Although conditions have improved in some areas, residents and visitors should continue to use caution while traveling throughout Porter as storm cleanup and utility restoration work continue.

Please stay away from downed power lines and use caution around damaged trees, utility poles, and other storm debris. Always assume a downed power line is energized.

Always call 911 in the event of a police, fire, or medical emergency.

Report Storm Damage:
Residents and businesses that experienced storm-related damage should continue to report their damage to Indiana 211. These reports are important in documenting the extent of the storm's impact and identifying needs within our community.

Storm damage can be reported by:
Calling 2-1-1
Calling 866-211-9966
Visiting IN211.org to report damage online

Thank You, Porter!
We continue to be grateful for the patience, cooperation, and support shown throughout our community. Thank you to the residents who have helped neighbors, cleared debris, checked on others, and stepped in wherever help was needed.

We also thank our first responders, Public Works crews, Town employees, NIPSCO and other utility crews, and the local and state agencies assisting our community.

Recovery will take time, but work continues throughout Porter. Thank you for your patience and cooperation as our community recovers.
