The National Weather Service in Chicago has issued a

* Severe Thunderstorm Warning for...
Northeastern Newton County in northwestern Indiana...
Porter County in northwestern Indiana...
Jasper County in northwestern Indiana...

* Until noon CDT.

* At 1103 AM CDT, severe thunderstorms were located along a line
extending from East Chicago to near Griffith to Shelby to Hopkins
Park, moving southeast at 85 mph.

THESE ARE DESTRUCTIVE STORMS FOR PORTER AND MUCH OF JASPER
COUNTIES.

HAZARD...100 mph wind gusts.

SOURCE...Radar indicated.

IMPACT...You are in a life-threatening situation. Flying debris
may be deadly to those caught without shelter. Mobile
homes will be destroyed. Expect considerable damage to
homes and businesses. Expect extensive tree damage and
power outages.

* Severe thunderstorms will be near...
Portage, DeMotte, Hebron, Lakes of the Four Seasons, South Haven,
Roselawn, and Ogden Dunes around 1110 AM CDT.
Valparaiso, Chesterton, Rensselaer, Wheatfield, Kouts, and Burns
Harbor around 1115 AM CDT.
Hanging Grove around 1120 AM CDT.

Other locations impacted by these severe thunderstorms include Fair
Oaks, Parr, Dunns Bridge, Boone Grove, Baileys Corner, Malden, Dune
Acres, Stoutsburg, Wheeler, and Collegeville.

Remain alert for a possible tornado! Tornadoes can develop quickly
from severe thunderstorms. If you spot a tornado go at once into the
basement or small central room in a sturdy structure.

This is an EXTREMELY DANGEROUS SITUATION with tornado like wind
speeds expected. Mobile homes and high profile vehicles are
especially susceptible to winds of this magnitude and may be
overturned. For your protection move to an interior room on the
lowest floor of a building. These storms have the potential to cause
serious injury and significant property damage.
