We are hoping that the weather forecasters are wrong and any storms pass over today. We are reminding you to be weather aware today.
A few other reminders…. Horsham Road is still closed; the borough does not have an estimated time for its reopening.
The West Monument Avenue Bridge is done; our staff completed the necessary repairs within the given timeframe, and now the product used to seal the work needs 72 hours to cure. We will reopen the bridge on Monday.
Cruise Night: We supported the Chamber's decision to cancel last night's Cruise Night. We saw many people out there still enjoying themselves. Please understand that we have to listen to the warnings, and as you all heard, the air quality was expected to worsen on Friday. None of us, including the public, knew how the air would be over the borough. Decisions are made with everyone's safety in mind, and several factors are considered. These events, like Cruise Night, rely on volunteers of all ages, which needs to be taken into account, as well as their health. If volunteers don't want to or can't participate, we need to respect that. These volunteers work hard so we can enjoy these events, so we should thank them, not publicly chastise them for something they can't control. Next week is the car show, and the Chamber and borough rely on these volunteers for its success. We also need to ensure that during events like Cruise Night, especially when it's hot and air quality is poor, our EMS provider is prepared should attendees get sick. With hundreds of people in the borough at this event, they need to be able to help you and those not at the event who may need assistance. Many people everywhere were having respiratory issues and needed medical attention due to the air quality.
Many things are considered behind the scenes to ensure your safety at borough events. Your safety, the safety of volunteers, and the safety of our employees are always our utmost priority.
Lastly, the Hatboro Pool reopens today, though the weather might not cooperate.
