Description
As we continue enjoying summer celebrations, please be reminded that the launching of sky lanterns (Chinese lanterns, wish lanterns) is prohibited under the Fire Code.
While they may look beautiful as they float through the night sky, these lanterns pose serious safety risks because they contain an open flame and can travel long distances before landing. Once they descend, they can:
• Start fires in fields, wooded areas, or on rooftops.
• Land on homes, decks, or other structures, creating a fire hazard.
• Leave behind litter and debris on private property, creating unnecessary cleanup for homeowners.
Even when launched with good intentions, there is no way to control where a lantern will land or whether the flame has been completely extinguished.
For the safety of our community and in accordance with the Fire Code, please do not launch sky lanterns in Plum Borough.
Thank you for helping keep our neighborhoods safe and protecting the homes and property of your fellow residents.
