🏡 A Friendly Reminder from Crafton's Code Office 🏡
It's been a wet stretch lately here in Crafton, with rain and storms rolling through more often than usual. Many of us have been staying inside more, which means it's easy to miss things popping up around our properties. All that rain has brought a lot of plant growth, debris, and drainage issues — but routine property maintenance is still required by code, rain or shine.
Here's why it matters: properties with code violations can lower nearby property values by 15% or more. A little upkeep from all of us goes a long way toward keeping Crafton beautiful and thriving!
A few maintenance reminders:
🌱 Grass and weeds must be kept to 6 inches or less
🌸 Native ("indigenous") plants are welcome, but cultivated flowers and gardens must still meet code
🌳 The strip between the sidewalk and curb — the "tree lawn" — needs to be maintained like a lawn: no weeds or obstructions
✂️ Trees and bushes near right-of-ways need regular pruning: 15 feet of clearance above roads, 8 feet above sidewalks, and no blocking sidewalks or roads
🚶 Sidewalks must stay clear — no branches, weeds, construction materials, or parked cars
👀 Live on a corner? Check your roadway sight triangle — can drivers see clearly to turn? If not, trim back anything blocking their view
💧 Manage water runoff so it doesn't create a nuisance for neighbors or a hazard on roads/sidewalks
🗑️ Trash cans can't be stored in front of your property, and trash must be bagged with tight-fitting lids
🏗️ Dumpsters in the street and new swimming pool installations (temporary or permanent) require permits
🚐 RVs can't be stored in front — they must be kept in the rear, in a garage or properly screened per code
