Description
At the request of the Dauphin Middle Paxton Fire Co., #1, we're sharing this important safety reminder. They are receiving calls from residents whose carbon monoxide detectors are going off due to unsafe generator use.

If you're using a generator to power your home or air conditioner, never operate the generator inside your home, garage, basement, porch, or near windows, doors, or vents.

Generators produce carbon monoxide (CO)—an invisible, odorless gas that can quickly build up and be fatal.

✔️ Always place generators at least 20 feet away from your home, with the exhaust directed away from doors, windows, and vents.

🚨 If your carbon monoxide alarm goes off:

Leave the building immediately and move to fresh air.
Call 911. Please do not call your local fire department directly or stop by the station to report the alarm.
Dauphin County Emergency Management/911 Communications will dispatch the appropriate emergency personnel to respond.

Please help spread the word and check on your family, friends, and neighbors—especially older adults and those living alone. A few simple precautions can save lives.

Stay safe, everyone.
