The National Weather Service in Binghamton has issued a
* Flash Flood Warning for...
Southern Luzerne County in northeastern Pennsylvania...
* Until 145 AM EDT.
* At 1043 PM EDT, Doppler radar indicated thunderstorms producing
heavy rain across the warned area. Flash flooding is ongoing or
expected to begin shortly.
HAZARD...Flash flooding caused by thunderstorms.
SOURCE...Radar.
IMPACT...Flash flooding of small creeks and streams, urban
areas, highways, streets and underpasses as well as
other poor drainage and low-lying areas.
* Some locations that will experience flash flooding include...
Hazleton, West Hazleton, Freeland, Conyngham, Nescopeck, Slocum,
White Haven, Shickshinny, Drums, Mountain Top, Drifton,
Woodside-Drifton, Pond Hill, Beach Haven, Rock Glen, East Berwick,
Dorrance, Nuangola, Penn Lake Park and New Columbus.
This includes the following streams and drainages...
Reyburn Creek, Black Creek, Balliet Run, Shickshinny Creek, Hazle
Creek, Little Nescopeck Creek, Stony Creek, Walker Run, Sandy Run,
Salem Creek, Pond Creek, Catawissa Creek, Turtle Creek, Little
Pine Creek, Little Wapwallopen Creek, Huntington Creek, Newport
Creek, Big Wapwallopen Creek, Bow Creek, Susquehanna River, South
Branch Newport Creek and Dreck Creek.
Turn around, don't drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood
deaths occur in vehicles.
Be especially cautious at night when it is harder to recognize the
dangers of flooding.
Be aware of your surroundings and do not drive on flooded roads.
