Description
According to the National Weather Service, Dauphin County is experiencing drought conditions due to well below-normal precipitation. June 2026 has been one of the driest Junes in recent history across much of Pennsylvania, with significant rainfall deficits contributing to worsening drought conditions. According to the National Weather Service, these dry conditions, combined with an intense heat wave, are placing additional stress on water supplies, agriculture, and the environment.
Adding to the concern, an extreme heat wave is forecast to impact our region, with temperatures expected to approach the area's all-time record high of 107°F, set in 1966.
🌡️ Heat Safety Reminders:
• Drink plenty of water, even if you don't feel thirsty.
• Limit strenuous outdoor activities during the hottest part of the day.
• Never leave children or pets in a parked vehicle.
• Check on older adults, neighbors, and anyone who may be vulnerable to extreme heat.
• Ensure pets have plenty of fresh water and access to shade.
Every drop counts. By conserving water and taking precautions during this period of drought and extreme heat, we can help protect our community and our water resources.
